A judge has bound a 15-year-old student to process for the murder of two teachers at a high school in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas, in the state of Michoacán, a case that has caused a national stir.
What did the judge determine?
During the initial hearing, the judicial authority determined that the minor will face the process for the crime of femicide, in addition to the possession of weapons exclusive to the Army.
As a precautionary measure, he was ordered to be held in a specialized center for adolescents while the complementary investigation is carried out, for which a period of approximately one month was set.
This decision represents the first formal step in the criminal process against him.
How the attack happened
The events occurred on March 24, 2026, at an upper-secondary educational institution in Lázaro Cárdenas.
According to the investigations, the student entered the school armed with an AR-15 type rifle and shot two teachers, who died at the scene.
The young man was detained shortly afterward inside the school after being subdued by people who were on the premises.
Investigation and possible motives
Authorities continue with the inquiries to clarify the motive for the crime.
Among the lines of investigation is the analysis of the minor's activity on social networks, where he allegedly shared content related to violence and misogyny.
The origin of the weapon used is also being investigated, as it is a rifle exclusive to the Armed Forces.
What could happen to the minor?
Because the accused is 15 years old, his case is governed by the juvenile justice system in Mexico, which provides for measures different from the penalties applied to adults.
In this context, the process will seek to determine his responsibility and the corresponding sanctions under this legal framework, while the public debate continues on whether minors who commit serious crimes should be tried as adults.
